Culture or co-cultures of Clostridium: • Fermentation of cellulolytic Clostridium strains on the substrate of the waste woods; • Fermentation of co-cultures of cellulolytic and solvent-producing Clostridium strains.

Synopsis: n-Butanol is a four-carbon alcohol to carry higher energy content than other fuel alcohols such as methanol and ethanol. Butanol, which has closer fuel properties to gasoline, is a more desirable motor biofuel for conventional gasoline engine vehicles with better properties than that of ethanol. A-STAR has funded NUS and TP to jointly develop a technology which is going to produce n-Butanol by using lignocellulosic feedstock instead of food crops.
